Things to Consider Before Buying a boxing shoes

While boxing shoes are quite similar to running shoes, there are some very important differences. One of the most noticeable differences is the lack of support on the bottom of the shoes. Running shoes offer full support for the entire foot. Boxing shoes are made from lightweight leather which allows the boxers to move deftly while in the ring. These shoes sport non-slip patterns or rubber soles rather than treading so boxers can grip the floor better. One similarity to running shoes is that there come in various colors and sizes.

Style is something to consider when buying boxing shoes. These are available in low tops, mid size, and high tops. Unless you are into kick boxing, it won't matter what style you get, although you should keep in mind that the higher the shoes come up, the more support your ankles and legs will receive. That is why kick boxers need to have high tops that lace up the shins. They need all the support their legs and ankles can get so that they are not harmed during a workout. These are usually made from an all leather material to ensure the optimum in comfort as well as ventilation. Lateral support is provided which helps boxers to move side to side and front to back more easily.

In issues of safety, your boxing shoes should have non-slip rubber soles to get the maximum amount of traction. This makes up for any lack of tread on the shoes. Most of these shoes have laces but there are also some styles offering Velcro straps or zippers.

Just take care that you buy shoes with a perfect fit for you. Before committing to a purchase, try them on in the store and walk around in them. In this way, you will see if there is anything that feels odd or uncomfortable about them BEFORE you get them home.

Dave Toub is a strong believer in high quality boxing shoes. Please check out one of my favorite Everlast boxing shoes and see the Punching Bags Pro homepage if you are interested in other gear as well.
